It’s almost impossible to get someone caught in that bubble to appreciate that a large number of Trump voters share many of their worst views about him but still prefer him to them.
If they could actually absorb this it might be a “look into the mirror” moment. Instead it almost always gets interpreted as further proof of the ignominious nature of anyone who would vote fore Trump.
I was a teen in the 90’s and Bill Clinton ran as a young person, playing the saxophone on the Arsenio Hall show. He was old enough to be my father. Chelsea is a bit younger than I am, but close to my age. He thought that he was a revolutionary, sticking it to the man. But he was an older white man who became the leader of the free world. He wasn’t a dissident. He literally was the establishment. That fact seemed to escape him.
This shapes how I see the left, forever young and cool and edgy in their own eyes, but in reality old with stale ideas and a decades long stranglehold on all of America’s important institutions-academia, media, government, entertainment, K-12, healthcare, you name it.
That gap between their self-perception and reality is cringe. And has been for a very long time.
I was at party recently and a woman I was speaking with found out I was a retired librarian and assumed I was reading the same fab, book of the moment, from the NYT bestseller list she was reading (which is kinda odd considering I just met her), when I stated I was in fact trading Thucydides’ “The Peloponnesian War,” she said “Oh,” politely and that ended the conversation. It was kind of funny. I’m no book snob just a natural and ancient history reader. I should probably read more fiction but I don’t. I worked in a public library for 30+ years and I respect and defended people’s right to read whatever they want.
This to me just illustrates further how corrupt and stupid the internet has made politics? Who in the real world cares about the internet cool kids club? Why should normal people be tyrannized by a bunch of fucked-up internet social climbers who base their entire worldview on what is “based” and what is “cringe”? I’m about ready to vote for the Butlerian Jihad Party.

Yes! We know he’s awful, we’ll still take him!

Don't mistake being credentialed as being "more smart".
There are untold numbers of dumbasses with credentials.
